When the bedding itself has failed or the tile has shifted, we lift the tile, remove the old bed, re-set with fresh compound, then repoint over the top. Applying new pointing over a failed bed is a temporary fix — it looks right but fails again within a year or two, especially through a Perth summer where thermal expansion cycles stress mortar joints hard.
